Richard Gutierrez exposes wildlife for sale tonight!

In 2008, Richard Gutierrez made his first environmental documentary Signos which tackled a timely and worldwide concern — climate change.  A year after came the internationally awarded Planet Philippinesthat showcased the beauty and rich biodiversity of the country.

This year, Richard embarks on a more dangerous journey as he investigates what some experts are calling the third largest illegal business in the world — the wildlife trade.

Wildlife for Sale airing tonight at 10:30 on GMA 7’s SNBO is the first docu on Philippine television that extensively investigates the controversial wildlife trade in the Philippines and in neighboring Asian countries. It traces the intricate wildlife trafficking trail — right from the source, to transshipment points, down to the markets where they are sold.

The docu also traces how widespread the wildlife trade is across Asia.  Documenting the trade from Myanmar, Thailand, China, Indonesia, and other parts of Southeast Asia, Wildlife for Sale is a comprehensive report on the state of wildlife in various parts of the world. The report uncovers what wild animals go through before they become souvenir items, pets in cages and even delicacies on the table.

Wildlife for Sale also reveals the major root of the trade — the demand for wildlife.  Poachers and traders during interviews admitted that engaging in this business is highly lucrative; and because of the demand, the sale of wild animals has become their bread and butter. A trader also narrates how they were able to ship animals from Palawan to Manila without being caught by authorities.

At the heart of this controversial issue is the very survival of species.  Every year, more animals are added to the Red List of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), revealing an alarming trend.  More and more of the world’s wildlife are pushed to the brink of extinction by habitat destruction, and by excessive and illegal hunting.

Richard shares that working on the docu was something very different from his other projects, I know this can be dangerous but as they say, nothing good come easy.

There are also many “firsts” that he experienced while filming the docu.  In Wildlife for Sale, he joins Palawan’s CIDG on a buy-bust operation against poachers and traders of Philippine Geckos. He and the team discover more than 70 geckos inside plastic bottles bound for Malaysia.  Richard also surveys a seized foreign vessel that was caught fishing along Philippine waters.

XB Gensan wins Showtime Grand finals, Season 2 starts Monday!

With its much-anticipated season two beginning tomorrow, July 26, Filipinos have even more to look forward to from the hit talent-variety show.

Last week, the program announced a wild card round that gave a second chance to groups that failed to reach the finals. Then last July 19, hosts Vhong Navarro, Anne Curtis and Kuya Kim Atienza got the shock of their lives when they were asked to decide on the fate of the wild card contestants as co-judges of resident judge Vice Ganda.

Moreover, the biggest surprise of them all came yesterday at Showtime The Finals, where the wildcard winner from Mindanao, the XB GenSan was announced the Grand Winner of Showtimes first season and took  home the P1-M grand prize.

The wacky tandem of Jugs of Itchyworms and Teddy of Rocksteddy were all praises for the finalists. “For me, they are all winners. The joy and amusement they have brought to Filipinos already make each one of them a champion,” said Navarro.

The hosts also expressed excitement for the second season of Showtime, which has been a source of entertainment and inspiration of many Filipinos.

“Where else can you see hosts, judges, crew, director and the audience all game to dance and sing together? We are a family here and this makes us even more motivated to work harder in our second season,” Curtis shared.

Showtime airs after Simply KC.

Willie Revillame's demands before going back to "Wowowee" delays his return!

Rumors have it that Willie Revillame‘s return to “Wowowee” is getting delayed because the beleaguered TV host has too many requests from the production.

A source told Bulletin Entertainment that Willie is requesting for a change in the show’s format. He is also said to be asking the network to introduce new segments.

More, Willie is allegedly asking the management to remove some of his female co-hosts, particularly Pokwang with whom Willie is not seeing eye to eye.

Willie reportedly got incensed when Pokwang openly campaigned for President Noynoy Aquino. He took offense because the comedienne, whom he fought for to be in his show, went against his political choice, Sen. Manny Villar.

The animosity between Willie and Pokwang is said to have grown after the latter said she felt guest co-host Robin Padilla showed respect for her. Pokwang, in unconfirmed reports, allegedly said she would leave “Wowowee” as soon as Willie is reinstated as main host.

Meanwhile, Willie’s daughter, Meryll Soriano, has hinted that he is bound to return to “Wowowee.” She did so in the July 21 episode of “TV Patrol” where she revealed spending time with Willie recently.

“Lagi kaming nandoon ng anak ko sa kanya, nagsi-swimming. Iyon lang ang buhay ng tatay ko, ‘yung anak ko, bilang apo. Very good na meron kaming time at least kahit konti lang kasi babalik na siya uli sa very hectic schedule niya,” Meryll told “TV Patrol” entertainment anchor Mario Dumaual.

Meryll is excited about her father’s impending return to the noontime show.

“Kung tuloy na tuloy na ‘yung pagbabalik ng papa ko, at least ‘yung maraming nakaka-miss sa kanya, makikita n’yo na siya uli. Kasi ‘Wowowee’ is not the same without him. That’s true, ‘di ba, because that’s his name, ‘Wowowee.’

Korina Sanchez' wish to have a baby at 45!

Korina Sanchez, 45, who took a leave of absence from ABS-CBN after her engagement and later marriage to former Senator Mar Roxas who is 53 , and ran as a Vice-presidentail candidate last election and lost in the recent election.

On her return as a news anchor on ABS-CBN:
“Ready na akong bumalik. It now depends kung ano ang babalikan ko, kung ano ang puwede. Sabi ko ‘Citizen Mar’ naman si Mar ngayon, so I don’t see any reason why I can’t go back to my former platforms. But that is still all up to the ABS-CBN management. So, kung sensitive sila sa parang hangover from the campaign and the elections, kahit palipasin ‘yon it’s really fine with me. I will always be with them so it really all depends on what we talk about.”

On her plans/wish to have a baby:
“Pinag-uusapan na din namin ‘yon. Kasi sabi sa akin ng OB-Gynecologist ko: ‘Bilisan mo na.’ Matagal na niyang sinasabi sa akin ‘yon. I kept myself healthy for the time when I’m really ready to have a child. That will be sooner than later.” She also said she is happy with her married life and the “emotional stability and security” it brings. “It was really the right time to settle down kasi may edad na kami pareho. Hindi na kami petty. Wala na kami masyadong pinag-aawayan. So, recommended ko ‘yan, kailangan talaga 40 and above kayo mag-asawa.”

On friend Kris Aquino’s marriage crisis:
“Kris, you’re a grown woman and with all of the trials and obstacles that I’ve been there with you, I saw that you were able to handle all of those with flying colors. And now that you’re even more mature, I know that you know what you’re doing.”

On her husband losing the election:
“Para kaming namatayan nang matalo si Mar…. ‘Yung protest ni Mar not necessarily to overturn the results but to find out what went wrong with the system…. And I fully support Mar in this, kasi biro mo tatlong milyong boto ang hindi malaman kung saan napunta.”

Korina Sanchez is still seen on ABS-CBN hosting award-winning TV magazine program, “Rated K” , and she use to anchor “Bandila”, the late evening newscast before her leave.
