Richard Gutierrez exposes wildlife for sale tonight!

In 2008, Richard Gutierrez made his first environmental documentary Signos which tackled a timely and worldwide concern — climate change.  A year after came the internationally awarded Planet Philippinesthat showcased the beauty and rich biodiversity of the country.

This year, Richard embarks on a more dangerous journey as he investigates what some experts are calling the third largest illegal business in the world — the wildlife trade.

Wildlife for Sale airing tonight at 10:30 on GMA 7’s SNBO is the first docu on Philippine television that extensively investigates the controversial wildlife trade in the Philippines and in neighboring Asian countries. It traces the intricate wildlife trafficking trail — right from the source, to transshipment points, down to the markets where they are sold.

The docu also traces how widespread the wildlife trade is across Asia.  Documenting the trade from Myanmar, Thailand, China, Indonesia, and other parts of Southeast Asia, Wildlife for Sale is a comprehensive report on the state of wildlife in various parts of the world. The report uncovers what wild animals go through before they become souvenir items, pets in cages and even delicacies on the table.

Wildlife for Sale also reveals the major root of the trade — the demand for wildlife.  Poachers and traders during interviews admitted that engaging in this business is highly lucrative; and because of the demand, the sale of wild animals has become their bread and butter. A trader also narrates how they were able to ship animals from Palawan to Manila without being caught by authorities.

At the heart of this controversial issue is the very survival of species.  Every year, more animals are added to the Red List of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), revealing an alarming trend.  More and more of the world’s wildlife are pushed to the brink of extinction by habitat destruction, and by excessive and illegal hunting.

Richard shares that working on the docu was something very different from his other projects, I know this can be dangerous but as they say, nothing good come easy.

There are also many “firsts” that he experienced while filming the docu.  In Wildlife for Sale, he joins Palawan’s CIDG on a buy-bust operation against poachers and traders of Philippine Geckos. He and the team discover more than 70 geckos inside plastic bottles bound for Malaysia.  Richard also surveys a seized foreign vessel that was caught fishing along Philippine waters.

Claudine will be off the air soon, Diz Is It next!

Claudine Barretto‘s drama anthology Claudine on GMA7 will be off the air soon! GMA7 executive  claims that it is gaining viewer ship  and the low ratings has nothing to do with the axing of the said show (do you agree with their statement?). Claudine will have another show, but this time in a soap opera with many stars in the cast.

But the executives of the network admitted that they will then ax Diz Is It next due to low ratings it has been getting and will be replaced with a new show this coming August.

Does anybody cares if this shows will be off the air?

Mo Twister faces breach of contract case for leaving GMA7 for TV5!

Mo Twister

A very reliable source said that GMA7 is filing a breach of contract case against Mo Twister for transferring to TV5! In a letter Mo wrote to GMA7, and this was the response he received ‘I want to remind you your contract ends at May and if you go to another channel, we’ll see you in court.’

It has been reported since March that DJ Mo Twister is transferring to TV5 and is only waiting for his contract with GMA7 to end this May before transferring.

Mo Twister was formally introduced as a regular host of Paparazzi and  Juicy which is going to have a new time slot starting tonight, May 17 on TV 5 at 11:30.

In a recent interview Mo said:

“I have to wait for my contract in GMA to expire. Ayoko rin na madamay naman ang TV5 kung sasabihin nila na, ‘Si Mo, pupunta na rito hindi pa man tapos ang contract niya sa GMA.”

“There was really no offer or any promising outlook na sabi nila.”

Did GMA7 made true to its threat to Mo since he is already with TV5 and May has not ended yet.

Agua Bendita namayagpag nung Marso!
