MasterChef Pinoy Edition: The Live Cook-off finals this Saturday!

The Final Four cooks Carla, Ivory, JR, and Myra will face head-to-head in their live and final cooking challenge in MasterChef Pinoy Edition: The Live Cook-off this Saturday (Feb 9), 10 AM at the SM North Edsa Skydome.

MasterChef Pinoy Edition TOP4

The first ever Pinoy MasterChef will finally be determined by Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo and Chef Ferns, Chef Lau, and Chef Jayps who will be sampling their dishes live, with Queen of All Media Kris Aquino and Kapamilya actor Richard Gomez sitting as judges to help them decide who among the country’s best home cooks is the most deserving to win the title.

With months of training in the MasterChef kitchen, the Final Four cooks have not only acquired new culinary skills but also confidence to succeed for themselves and their families.

“I can say that my determination and love for cooking have nurtured me to become a better cook. I’m not a perfectly skilled and knowledgeable cook but I have the biggest heart among all the contenders in the show,” said JR, the Rakistang Kusinero of Benguet.

Carla, the eldest in the group at 40, is confident that her years of experience as a home cook and a housewife will lead her to the top. ”I’m older than all of them and I’ve been a home cook for a very long time. I’ve used ingredients they never used before. I also know basic cooking techniques they don’t,” quipped the Negosyanteng Kusinera of Bulacan.

The Chef Accountant of Muntinlupa Myra also banks on her being a mother but mostly takes pride in her self-discipline. “I’m more experienced than them—that disciplined me and molded me into a better person in real life and in the kitchen. Being a good chef isn’t just about talent and skills; more importantly, it’s the right attitude that matters,” she said.

Not to be left out is Ivory, the Kusina Fashionista of Quezon City, who boasts of her knowledge of the different cuisines in the world. She said, “My edge over them is I know all the cuisines of the world. I want to raise the standards of Filipino cuisine, not only the classic adobo, kare-kare, or pinakbet. I want to inspire Filipinos to travel the world through food.”

Despite their searing determination to edge out each other, they said they will use their MasterChef experience to fulfill their ambitions, whether they win or lose. Being a part of the kusina serye, they said, is a priceless experience they will treasure in their lifetime.

JR shared that he has already resigned from his job in order to focus on cooking and study professionally. Carla, meanwhile, wants to expand her home cooking business she is known for in their neighborhood.

Putting up a restaurant has always been the ultimate dream of Myra and Ivory, who both admitted they “got off course” from their dream of becoming a chef. Myra was forced to take up accountancy because it was the most convenient career choice for her family, while Ivory is a nurse who had initially pursued to become a doctor to follow her parents’ wishes.

The first ever Pinoy MasterChef will win P1 million from Clara Oil, a kitchen showcase from Whirlpool, and a Diploma Program for Professional Culinary Arts scholarship at the Center for Asian Culinary Studies.

The second, third, and fourth placers will win P500,000, P300,000, and P200,000 respectively. They will each get a kitchen package from Fujidenzo and a scholarship at the Center for Asian Culinary Studies.

The remaining home cook contestants are:

  • Ivory Yat,
  • Myra Santos,
  • Carla Marcaida
  • JR Royol.

“Feeling mo naka-graduate ka. Nakakaiyak at nakaka-overwhelm, parang wow nandoon ako (sa Top 4)” Yat said.

“Gusto naming sumigaw at tumalon at umiyak… Sa dami ng challenges na napakita namin dito sa ‘MasterChef’ I think we deserve to be part of Top 4,” Marcaida added.

For Santos, it’s an honor to compete until the end of the show. “Feeling ko kami na yung pinakamagagaling. So mapabilang ka doon sobrang honored,” she said.

“Deep dowm sinasabi ko sa sarili ko hindi pa tapos, mag-uumpisa pa lang ang tunay na laban,” Royol added.

The first “MasterChef Pinoy Edition” winner will get the P1-million grand prize and a culinary scholarship.

“MasterChef Pinoy Edition,” down to the last three weeks of competition!

Seven cooks remain to face the toughest battle of their lives and the ultimate showdown for culinary supremacy in ABS-CBN’s top-rating kusina serye MasterChef Pinoy Edition.

 MasterChef Pinoy Edition TOP7

Three weeks before the grand finale titled MasterChef Pinoy Edition: The Live Cook-off set on February 9, the Top 7 cooks are set to conquer daunting challenges to prove their worth to host Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo, Chef Ferns, Chef Lau, and Chef Jayps.

Carla, the Negosyante Kusinera of Bulacan has come a long way from being a home cook who thought she could only cook for her family and friends.  In the MasterChef cooking arena, she has proven to be one of the strongest contenders for her traditional dishes with a twist like sinigang na lechon kawali and pusit stuffed with Bicol Express.

Ivory’s flamboyant character reflects her dishes that seem as interesting as the headdresses she wears on the show. Admittedly inexperienced in cooking Filipino food, the Kusina Fashionista of Quezon City uses her experience of traveling to different countries by adding an extra punch to her dishes such as Caribbean embutido.

Another standout personality is JR, the Rakistang Kusinero of Benguet who has gained a bold competitive reputation when he spoke against wildcard contestant Sonny Boy joining the competition again. JR’s aggressiveness was evident in the special Christmas challenge, one of the few individual challenges he won in the kusina serye.

Unlike JR, the Chef Accountant of Muntinlupa Myra is a silent but worthy competitor as proven by the judges’ positive comments on her dishes. Her fellow cooks see her as a reliable team member who has an extraordinary flair for desserts.

While Reggie always gets dumped by girls, he can always turn his heartbreak into culinary genius. An early frontrunner in the show, the Romantic Kusinero of Laguna is one of the MasterChef cooks with the most number of top dishes, including bibingka deluxe, Pinoy-style shawarma, and longganisa sweet curry. Will he prevail until the very end?

From a humble living in the province, Ronnel is especially skilled in preparing classic Pinoy dishes. Despite his knack for inventing new and unusual dishes, the Boy Labong of Pampanga can whip up a simple yet outstanding dish like a tasty serving of nachos which he prepared and was named the top dish in one of the kusina serye’s challenges.

Meanwhile, Sonny Boy kept his fighting spirit burning after being eliminated early in the show and made a solid comeback as a wildcard contestant. Aside from his famous darak cookies, the Darak King of Bataan also made history when he became the first MasterChef cook to prepare the top dishes in two consecutive challenges.

Don’t miss the last three weeks of Masterchef Pinoy Edition as the Top 7 cooks fight their way to the top to become the first ever Pinoy MasterChef and win P1 million.

Masterchef Pinoy Edition airs Mondays through Fridays, 10:15AM, before Minute To Win It on ABS-CBN and Saturdays, 10AM, before Be Careful With My Heart: Saturday Rewind. For updates on the program, like www.facebook.com/MasterChefPH, follow @MasterChefPHL on Twitter, or visit www.masterchefph.tv.
