Katy Perry is 2015 world’s top-grossing musician!

NEW YORK–Katy Perry pulled in $135 million in the past year to be the world’s top-grossing musician, beating out Taylor Swift who has hinted at “bad blood” with the fellow pop singer.

Forbes magazine said that the 30-year-old Perry, who is on a 150-date world tour for her album “Prism,” narrowly edged out One Direction for income in the year through June 1.

The British boy band, whose future and image were thrown into doubt in March when member Zayn Malik left, grossed $130 million, according to the magazine.

They were followed at $90 million by Garth Brooks, the 1990s country star who has returned to the road for a comeback album, and then Swift at $80 million.

Perry’s dominance over Swift is not surprising considering that Forbes looks at earnings during the year, not total income.

Similarly, Beyonce — who was the highest-paid among all celebrities on last year’s list — slipped to number 29 as she ended a major tour in March 2014.

Swift in October released “1989,” which was the fastest-selling US album in 13 years, but she did not go on tour until May, near the end of the period analyzed by Forbes.

“1989” includes the song “Bad Blood” in which Swift complains about a rival who “hit me where I’m weak” and warns that “time can heal, but this won’t.”

Swift told Rolling Stone magazine that the song was about a rival who tried to “sabotage” her tour by poaching the people working for her, leading to wide speculation she was speaking about Perry.

Perry was the third highest-earning celebrity overall, behind boxers Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao who fought a highly anticipated match in May in Las Vegas.

Michael Jackson estates from brink to bankruptcy to very profitable 6 years after death!

Source: TMZ

Michael Jackson died 6 years ago today, and TMZ has learned his estate went from the brink of bankruptcy to financial fortune … and his kids are now better off than their famous dad.

Sources familiar with the financials tell TMZ, the estate has grossed nearly $2 billion since MJ’s death. The money comes from the movies “This is It,” the Cirque show “Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour,” 50 million albums sold and various other ventures.

After expenses, that $2 bil gets whittled down to around $800 million — which is a very good return.

But the $800 mil gets significantly cut by taxes … we’re told to around $450 mil.
MJ’s debts at the time of his death were around $500 million, so just on those 2 numbers the estate approaches being in the black.

But there are other ventures, like Sony, where the estate generates a lot of cash.
As for Michael’s kids, there’s a trust where millions gets distributed as they get older.

Our sources familiar with the financials tell TMZ … if the estate were completely liquidated today, each kid would get around $100 million.

Not a bad bounce back from the edge of bankruptcy.

Taylor Swift decides to exclusively stream latest album in Apple!

Source: Manila Bulletin

Pop superstar Taylor Swift said Thursday she would stream her latest album only on Apple, capping an 180-degree about-turn after she threatened a boycott.

The big loser in Swift’s reconciliation with Apple stands to be Spotify, the leader in the booming sector of streaming, which offers unlimited, on-demand music.

Swift on Sunday issued an open protest to Apple over compensation to artists on its upcoming streaming service, leading the tech giant to reverse course and step up payments.

In response, the 25-year-old singer, who had initially threatened a boycott, said Thursday that she would stream her blockbuster album “1989″ on Apple Music.

“This is simply the first time it’s felt right in my gut to stream my album. Thank you, Apple, for your change of heart,” Swift wrote on Twitter.

Swift last year pulled her entire catalog from Spotify, angry at the Swedish company’s free tier supported by advertising.

The starlet streams most of her work on rival platforms such as Google Play and rap mogul Jay-Z’s Tidal, but until now “1989″ — by far the best-selling US album of the past year — was available only on physical copies or digital downloads.

In another sign that Apple is investing heavily in streaming, Pharrell Williams said that his new single would be released exclusively on the service when it goes live on Tuesday.

Williams, best known for the viral hit “Happy,” released a video on social media to preview the song, entitled “Freedom.”

Swift insisted that she had not entered any special deal with Apple.

“In case you’re wondering if this is some exclusive deal like you’ve seen Apple do with other artists, it’s not,” she tweeted.

Swift had initially lashed out at Apple for not planning to pay royalties to artists for streams during customers’ three-month trial periods.

She said that other artists were afraid to speak out for fear of incurring the wrath of Apple, which enjoys major influence in the music world through iTunes.

A senior Apple executive within hours called Swift, who was in Amsterdam on a tour, and said the company would compensate for songs at all stages of streaming.

“The Voice Kids Season 2” premieres on June 6!

Superstar coaches and performers Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo, and Lea Salonga will once again search for kiddie artists with big voices in the second season of the top-rating and Twitter-trending “The Voice Kids” starting this Saturday (June 6).

This season, the coaches are more aggressive than ever, using new tricks to convince an artist to join their respective teams in the Blind Auditions – the first stage of the competition.

“What we’re really looking for are kids who can sing better than our Season 1’s Top 4. And I think we found them,” said coach Lea.

Coach Sarah, who mentored Season 1 grand winner Lyca Gairanod, shared, “It’s hard to find really unique voices. It’s where we come in as coaches to help them improve as artists.”

As in the first season, each coach must have signed up 18 kiddie artists for their teams by the end of the Blind Auditions.

“Yes, voice is the defining thing. With kids, there’s a whole lot more involved. I have a good feeling this season I’ll find somebody special,” said coach Bamboo.

The pilot episodes features a fashionista, a football heartthrob, an artist who likes to impersonate other singers, a kid who will make coach Lea teary-eyed, and a boy who will proudly represent his tribe in Bukidnon.

Who will impress the coaches? What are the stories behind the voices of the first three- chair turners of the season?

Don’t miss the premiere of “The Voice Kids” Season 2 this Saturday (June 6) on ABS-CBN.
